It was a relatively normal day on Starbase 777, all things considered! Ships in and out, civilians and officers alike in shops and restaurants, everyone working hard to get through the shift. In fact, someone could even say it was quie— Oops. Nevermind that, then, there was a distress signal on screen!

He answered the distress signal: "Cap'n Mo of Starfleet here. What's your issue?"

She stood close by as she listened to Captain Mephistopheles speak

"Is that— is somebody there!? Oh, oh, thank the gods! There's — there's a group of us trapped on Hamar IV, we've been trying to reach someone for ages, and...! Oh, thank god, thank god someone's there!" Relief and panic all built up into one. The voice on the other end prattled off a set of coordinates.

She looked up and she was taking down the co-ordinates that were rattled off

Lt. Cdr. Vara'l tr'Hara | TAC BOT 11/10/2024 16:17
With a series of taps Vara'l searched up the name Hamar IV on the Tac Console. As that started to run, he also noted down the coordinates and watched to see if something turned up for Hamar IV with those coordinates

"We're here, we're here." He glanced toward the person writing down the coordinates. Good initiative. "Takin' down your coordinates now. We'll be there as soon as possible."

Silently the Romulan walked over to the tac console and handed off the co-ordinates and she headed back down to medical nodding her head at Natasha the diplomat as she walked past her

"Shall I put out a notice to the Eventide's crew to assemble, sir?" Bellona asked from one of the nearby consoles. She'd been there as watch officer before the distress signal came in, after all.

She looked around and she quickly caught on to the situation that was going on. Despite being a diplomat she wanted to help.

Vara'l accepted the coordinates with a nod of thanks and looked them over. With a series of blinks he then accessed his Borg Implanted tech and recorded the coordinates in his memory. He then checked the in process process on the console.

He nodded. "Yes. Soon as possible. Tell 'em we're answerin' a hail."

Hamar IV, Hamar IV... The computer came back with no results. Such a planet simply did not exist in Starfleet's database. "Oh, thank you," the voice on the other end was nearly crying with relief. "Thank you so much!" (edited)

...Huh. That was weird. "Can we get a long-range scan of those coordinates?" It might be too far away, but worth a try.
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Vara'l tr'Hara | TAC BOT 11/10/2024 16:42
What. The Romulan initially thought before he proceeded to say. "Science, requesting Verification on my console results, sending them to your console now." The Romulan said then as he tapped and sent a copy to the science console. Vara'l then initiated the long range scan ordered. "Sir, Hamar IV comes up as not on Starfleet records,Verification check underway, scan initiated." He reported then as he directed his console to check to see if a planet happened to be recorded at the coordinates provided.

. . . Yep. Something was definitely there. It was too far away to make out specifics beyond "big ol' celestial body right this way", but definitely something there. Huh.

Cpt. Mephistopheles Mo | CMD BOT 11/10/2024 16:45
"Hmmm. Definitely a big ol' celestial body right that way. We'll proceed as we were." They had to check it out either way, really.

His report about his scan preempted, Vara'l assumed the Captain had accessed his scan as it was underway. "Understood." He then checked to see if his database check results had been verified.

She looked over at the console also "Huh that is very very strange."

Lt. JG. Carissa Sykes | INT BOT 11/10/2024 17:28
Distress signal, huh? From…nowhere? Consider her interest piqued! Sykes nodded toward Mo, “Cap, ya mind if I take a look at this signal a bit closer? Make sure we ain’t gettin’ spoofed or anythin’ like that?”
Avatar
Cpt. Mephistopheles Mo | CMD BOT 11/10/2024 17:29
"Go ahead, Lieutenant." Judging by their uniform, this was probably within their area of expertise.

Lt. JG. Carissa Sykes | INT BOT 11/10/2024 17:31
She grinned. Oh yes, well within her area of expertise. She cracked her knuckles and slotted into the console next to Vara’l, “Hope ya don’t mind the company there, Commander. Let’s take a looksie…” Sykes started to look through the data available to her, making sure that signal was for sure coming from one direction, rather than getting bounce around to prevent tracking.

Definitely only coming from one location. The coordinates provided, in fact.

Lt. JG. Carissa Sykes | INT BOT 11/10/2024 17:35
“Well…answers that, I suppose,” She glanced at Vara’l and the captain, “We’ve got a direct line of transmission coming from…well, hell knows where. Nothin’ bouncing around, coordinates directly linked to the transmitter. But ah…seems like the only evidence this place even exists is the signal.”

"I don't mind the company." He responded initially before, when it became apparent how lacking they were in Intel, he then frowned. "This...seems odd, the lack of information, no database entry yet they don't seem..surprised to hear a Starfleet voice at the other end of the line." He trailled off a moment then before he checked the PA alerts. "I need to pass information on to the Tac officers and CTO." He gestured for the next TAC officer on shift to tac over his Console. Then, as his bridge shift coincidentally would have arrived at its conclusion if it hadn't been for the distress call, he headed to the turbolift. His destination, he reckoned, would be the Airlock. Something seemed odd about all this and if anything, it had managed to make him slightly unnerved, from what he observed about his bodies inefficient biological responses to outside stimuli.

"Perhaps this place is... cloaked. Hidden somehow, so we have never seen it." Bellona guessed. "Or, the Gods forbid, it could be an attempt at deception. I can notify the Eventide's crew of this and inform them to exercise extra caution. Sir?" She looked to Mo for his decision. She might be officer of the watch, but he outranked her by appointment.
